Try to get to Stanley Markets if you get a chance

Travel Tip posted by cicero

If you are staying in Kowloon or on Hong Kong Island it can be nice to get the bus from Central (although you can get it from other places also) to Stanley Markets which is on the back side of the Island. It takes a wee while to get there and you will go up and over some decent hills but once there you can indulge in a little shopping by the water.

Buses are 6, 6A, 6X or 260 from the Exchange Square bus terminus which is in Central. Taxi is also an option if you like to pay more.

Take the tram to the The Peak in Hong Kong

Travel Tip posted by cicero

There are a couple of ways to get up to The Peak in Hong Kong. One is bus, another is Cab or car but the best was is the Tram. Very steep and just great fun.

"All tickets are sold at Garden Road Peak Tram Lower Terminus or appointed travel agents.
Peak Tram Upper Terminus (The Peak Tower) sells Peak Tram tickets (Return & Single) only."

If your buying electronics in Hong Kong don't get sucked in by the bright neon lights stores

Travel Tip posted by cicero

If your buying Electronics in Hong Kong it can be easy to become overwhelmed by all of the options and let me preface this by saying I love Hong Kong.

General rule of thumb applies here - if it looks too good it probably is. I have been to HK many times and on my most recent trip I wanted a Video camera. I went to one shop who gave me a price on one of the Cameras in the window display of one of the bright neon lit stores you will see, generally in Kowloon around Nathan Road or the Golden Mile.

This is the usual sales routine as I tried it on a couple of them :

When in Hong Kong get an Octopus Travel card

Travel Tip posted by wilbur

The Octopus travel card is a prepay card you can get anywhere. It is the only way to travel on the MTR. If you are there for 3 days and expect to do a lot of traveling you should get good use out of a three day Travel Card with a return trip to the airport on it. The Train from the Airport is great and is the fastest most comfortable way to travel. The staff are friendly anyway so you should have no problems.

Don't be afraid to buy your Octopus Card as you come out of customs and immigration - it is no more expensive than anywhere else.
